The Inbound phase is the process that takes care of goods, arriving from purchase, return, production or miscellaneous accounts (e.g. contract work, consignment…) entering the warehouse. It can be divided into:

Receiving - The goods arrive at the warehouse and the system acquires the related documentation (from the company IT system, Excel file, CSV file or via manual insertion): this provides a preliminary accounting record of the goods quantity.

Identification - The goods are inspected and prepared for storage via manual or system driven pallet preparation. This phase can be managed using the most appropriate device, ranging from simple paper lists to RF terminals with barcode or RFID reader. The system has now a record of the actual quantity of stock and its partition into pallets.

The Put away phase is the process that manages goods, once inspected and divided onto pallets, defining all movements to proper locations as well as stocking and physical arrangement as required. It can be divided into:

Slot selection - The best storage location and related tasks are selected, system driven or manually, for every pallet on the basis of the product’s characteristics (ABC class, weight, etc.).

Put away - Tasks generated in the previous phase are performed carrying the pallets to the chosen locations (shelf, stack, drawer, etc.). Correct placement is verified via barcodes or RFIDs. Once tasks are complete, the related incoming document is closed and backed-up on the system. This completes the flow of arrival and storage operations.

The Planning phase is the process that manages shipping order preparation. It can be divided into:

Planning - Acquisition of shipping orders (from the company IT system, Excel files, CSV files, or manually) and verification of suitable stock availability for delivery.

Material allocation - The stocks selected, system driven or manually, are reserved for individual orders on the basis of operations logics and optimization criteria.

Organisation of picking - The task for movements of pallets containing the reserved stocks are generated and organized into picking lists on the basis of criteria for optimizing operations (maximum weight, number of tasks, shortest route etc.).

The Execution phase is the process that manages goods before they leave the warehouse; all tasks to prepare goods addressed to sale, return, miscellaneous accounts (e.g. contract work, consignment…) are performed as planned. It can be divided into:

Picking - The picking tasks are implemented moving the stocks from their storage locations. This phase can be performed using the most appropriate devices: simple paper lists, RF terminals with barcode or RFID readers, Voice Picking systems etc.

Packaging - The picked stocks are organised in parcels for delivery through packaging, weighing and labelling operations.

Shipment - Finally, the packages for delivery are organised and loaded to the vehicle for transportation. The sorting, tallying and loading of vehicles can be performed using the most appropriate devices from simple paper lists to RF terminals or RFID gates.
